With the release of our maharishi issue this winter, we’re spotlighting some of the UK’s finest. UK based music artist, Quantic, took some time to share some of his favorites with us.
Bangers and Mash - My staple diet for many years and a meal that never ceases to satisfy me.
Northern Soul - A Music scene that I owe most of my record collection too. Before anyone, these guys were pushing and keeping alive Afro-American Soul in UK clubs.
Beatin Rhythm - The finest record store for Soul and Funk in the UK. A great 45 section with many rarities at good prices, based in Manchester.
If Music - My favorite record shop for Future Music. Run by Jean Claude (1/2 of the Amalgamation of Sound) with wicked selection of House, Broken Beat, etc. . .
Jelly Jazz - Devon’s best kep secret. Running for many years now, I consider this one of the best club nights in England. Hosted by Peet Isaac, Jelly Jazz regularly hosts wednesday night club sessions playing new and old quality music in Plymouths Quay Club.
Beards, Cheese and Cider - England prides itself on a good variety of Beards, Cheese and Cider, each is good in Isolation but when combined can be a pleasure to all Men, Women and Children
The Big Chill - England’s finest Music Festival, held every summer in the Worcesshire countryside. The Big Chill is a combination of a good and diverse music policy and just generally nice, honest people in a field together.
About Quantic - At 23 years old, Quantic has established himself as one of the most talented and profilic artists, blending jazz, deep funk, afro beat and bossa nova with dance floor oriented breaks and grooves. A member of the Quantic Soul Orche stra project, Quantic has been hyped by the likes of Richard Dorfmeister, Mr. Scruff, and LTJ Bukem. His latest album, Mishaps Happenings is available on Tru Thoughts and Ubiquity records. For more info, check www.tru-thoughts.co.uk and www.ubiquityrecords.com
