Dr. Robert Moog, founder of the R.A. Moog Company and father of the modern electronic synthesizer, passed away Sunday at his home in Asheville, North Carolina.  He suffered an inoperable brain tumor, detected in April, according to his company’s Website.

We remember Dr. Moog as the electronic innovator and visionary whose instruments helped spawn the musical movement Electronica.  His synthesizers and theremins (pictured above) are responsible for many of the sounds and vibrations heard in contemporary records, and we are forever grateful for his contributions to the world of sound.  For a full obituary and remembrance of his genius visit MoogMusic.com

Kidz in the Hall: The Amazin’ Race

With the sudden glut of Hip Hop talent pouring out of Chicago, one must question, "What in the world are they putting in the water over at Chi-Town?!"  Powered by Southside emcee Naledge and his beat creating counterpart Double-O, Kidz in the Hall promise to be Hip Hop’s hottest new act.  These two Ivy-educated ghetto communicators represent the roots of Hip Hop, bringing back memories of other great emcee/producer combos like Pete Rock & CL Smooth and Gangstarr.  Their newest enterprise, The Amazin’ Race mixtape, blends thuggacated street knowledge with the traditional soul of Chicago rhythm and blues.  Hosted by super-producer Just Blaze and with contributions from Janet Jackson and Chi-Town’s own Kanye West, The Amazin’ Race looks like the Kidz’s final lap to Hip Hop greatness.  Click here for more info on Kidz in the Hall.

Artist Spotlight: Karen Evans

Karen Evans is a young photographer living and working in NYC; her clients include magazines Anthem, Ego Miami, and Bust, as well as advertising work for Sony and Red Bull.  Working in New York has helped refine her style and progress it into what it is today. Growing from her days at the Academy of Art in San Francisco where her photographs were more often grainy and dark, today she combines the rawness of her art school youth with a more commercial sensibility, while still retaining her edge. The focus of her work is mostly fashion photography, which she finds an exciting combination of commerce and art. She sees her images as biography and believes there is a message in how we present ourselves, one of the reasons why she enjoys fashion as a medium. Her goal is to travel all over the world shooting fashion, music, and life for editorial, music, and advertising clients, get paid lots of money, and have a damn good time doing it.  Check out some of her work here and at her website at http://www.eekphoto.com/.
