Matisyahu-Free Concert

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Hasidic Jews and Reggae may not go together like your grandmother’s borscht and gefilte fish, but Hasidic Reggae artist, Matisyahu, holds it down.  As the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah approaches, Matisyahu, in conjunction with the Jewish Life Festival, are putting on a free concert in Washington Square Park Sunday October 2nd.  I suggest you come out, bring your praying shawls, your skull caps, and support this Hasid while he lays out some of the most interesting Reggae tunes.  For more information go to hasidicreggae.com.

MAGIC 05…. The RETAIL MAFIA (SSUR, aNYthing, Frank151, SITUATIONORMAL, JMONEY, and ALIFE) in association with Boost Mobile straight tore the “strip” club up with a live preformance by Ghostface Killah and his Theodore Unit. Big Kap from the Big Dawg Pitbulls and sexy-ass DJ Kris Kut held down the turntables all night long. Over 100 stripers and 1000 friends and family were in the place for the party. Big shouts to John Buscemi and his all star Bachelor party crew, who came out early and set the mother off!!!!To check out photos click here.

Be on the look out for the exclusive RETAIL MAFIA designed BOOST Mobile phones set to drop late November….

Arctic Flow

Arcticflow

When I think of Alaska I think of polar bears and Igloos.  However, Arctic Flow records is trying to change that perception with their stable of chill and crisp artists that keep things colder than Eskimo Pies (I love Eskimo Pies and who doesn’t).  With fresh up and coming Anchorage artists like Josh Boots, Soiled Seed, and Akream this record label is setting it sights high.  Give these budding artists a listen.  Check it at  arcticflow.com.

Malkovich

Malkovich

Malkovich’s debut album, Skeletons, is a refreshing trip into the mind of Crag Malkovich, an LA based artist and part of the Gershwin BLX Crew. In the title track he lays out what that trip is about ("It’s love and It’s hate and It’s bumps and It’s scrapes and It’s running a race with one foot in the grave.") His flow falls heavily around simple beats like a quilt, sometimes it’s too heavy but most of the time just right. The jazz and soul samples add a little beauty to the roughness of Malkovich’s voice.  Malkovich Music is honest but successfully avoids cliche, even while rhyming about a girl who makes him smile.  Check his album out at malkovichmusic.com.

Pixel

What happens when a printer and a paint roller are combined?  The Pixel Roller is conceived.  This is a seriously fresh piece of technology that allows the painter to paint in pixels.  Being able to paint in pixels allows the painter to create digital text or an image on to a great range of surfaces.  If you want to be visually amazed you have to check the Pixel Roller in action, checki it here.

Stiffed

It’s punk music to make you move. Stiffed’s debut album, Burned Again, hit stores yesterday. Full of feel good songs with just enough edge to make you not care you’ve started to sing along. Burned Again is the follow up to the well received 2003 EP, Sex Sells. The poppy punk rock band, led by vocalist Santi White, who is cute, cool as hell, and can kick Gwen Stefani’s ass, is performing with Suffrajet at S.O.B.’s  on the 15th. If you’re in NYC check out the show, also performing is DJ Rekha, for all your South Asian dance music needs.
