Who knew fertilization could be such a battle? Missing their mark andlanding on the stomach, a group of sperm cells must make their way insidethe woman and find the egg- an elusive and well dressed prize. Along theway, the sperm cells encounter numerous enemies including, Kleenex, soapand the body’s defenses. Some cells die along the way and in the end onlyone can be victorious in the mission. This is the story of DaisukeKoshikawa’s play, We Are the Sperm Cells, performed by the D.K. Hollywoodcomedy troupe. The show is back in New York for a limited time, encorepresentation. It is in Japanese with an English narration so some of thejokes are lost on non-Japanese speakers, but with this plot the jokes arenot difficult to infer. It’s not all comedy though, because the battle isreally a symbol for peace, "We, human beings, have gone through theseverest fight before being born to this world. Do we really need to fighteach other any more?"
