Soner, representing Flatbush Brooklyn, might not be the most familiar artist, but he is defiantly one that is worth checking out.  He has a great original style that is something like a Saturday Morning Cartoon on LSD.  I suggest to check out his website at flatbush.com for some views of his artwork.

Omega One - The Lo-Fi Chronicles

Wednesday, November 9th, 2005

One of the most underrated elements of a good hip-hop album is how the production is handled.  Omega One’s Lo-Fi Chronicles, separates itself from the typical album where the quarterback role is handled by an MC; Chronicles is an album for the people who fiend crisp organized chaotic beats.  Omega One does incorporate two MC’s, LoDeck and I Self Devine, in his songs, Coup B’Etat and I Want It All, but the hook to this album is all Omega One and his entrancing beats.  Many albums that are instrumental base with low or no MC involvement succumb to the same problem, listener boredom.  Omega One’s debut never has this problem by incorporating samples and scratching that has the listener’s ear salivating.  This is a must buy for anyone who loves to hear beats that aren’t repetitive and musically flat.

School Zone

When I think of high school, I remember the sloppy joes that used to wink at you while they were slopped on a piece of bread that had the same consistency as steel wool.  Martinez gallery is hear to try to re-mold the high school image by bringing artists into class rooms and letting them throw away the dull abacuses and scary poetry posters that refer to Emily Dickinson and replacing them with not just a new interesting classroom atmosphere, but a new artistic driven view on the institution of high school.  The gallery is located at Urban Academy (Julia Richmond High) 317 East 67th Street, Room 222 from November 12th to January 28th, I suggest you check it out.

Miow Hirota is a Japanese photographer living in Tokyo, who has been working in the movie, publishing, and music industry.  She recently had an exibition at Depot gallery in nakameguro earlier this year.  She explains her concept as: "Photography is a way of showing my affection.  It sometimes is a message for someone and sometimes a cure for my anxiety.  It also is a token of existence for both the photographer and the subject. A camera is not just a tool to shoot a picture."  To check out more pictures click here.
