Before we hit you with a few piss jokes, we feel it is our duty to first discuss the alternate meanings of the word ‘piss’. Here in the States, the word ‘piss’ means one thing - urine. Just as ‘getting pissed’ means getting angry. However, some words mean different things in different places!
In British, New Zealand and Australian slang, ‘piss’ can refer to beer, just as ‘getting pissed’ means ‘getting drunk’. A ‘piss-up’ is an event with a lot of alcohol. A well-known expression using this phrase is, "… couldn’t organise a piss-up in a brewery" which simply refers to someone who is disorganized.
Piss Beer was created in Melbourne, Australia in 1998. It boasts a
simple lager style and is made from all natural ingredients. Piss Beer
also sells a lighter companion, Piss Weak.
We received a six pack of Piss Beer and Piss Weak a few days before my good friend flew in from the mid-west. One of the smarter kids I know, he was the valedictorian of our high school and had recently scored in the 98th percentile on his MCATS. Shortly after his arrival we threw a piss-up. It felt really good to watch such a smart kid drink from a container that was clearly marked ‘Piss’.
We found that most people spent a fair amount of time smelling the beer before they tasted it, which is understandable. When they had fully convinced themselves that the bottle was not actually filled with urine, they tried it. Their expressions of cautious disgust then changed to surprised enjoyment.
