Frank151 reviews “The Next Best Thing”

“This is the world’s greatest thing ever thung.”

Some things pair well: bread and butter, Chang and Eng, bass and treble, Aesop Rock and Jeremy Fish. Bazooka Tooth recently teamed up with Mr. Silly Pink Bunnies to collab on a combination ‘story book and long playing record’ entitled, “The Next Best Thing.” Following Aesop Rock’s lyrics we came to a number of conclusions about the meaning of the story, none of which merit repeating. So we’ll spare you our interpretation and just quote the book:
‘”The Next Best Thing” is a collaborative effort and represents a homegrown approach to “creative block” shared by the two. The artist places all half-done projects to the side and proceeds to convince him/herself that he/she will promptly hatch the greatest idea ever to have been conjured in the history of life as we know it. Once convinced that a stellar outcome is inevitable, the pistons should pump on their own.
“This method does not work. Upon completion of 2/3rds of said project, one is inescapably haunted by the distant birth of an even newer idea, thereby rendering the current work merely “The Next Best Thing.” Do not try this at home. Really. It is a can of worms best unopened. Trust us.”
The book/vinyl combo is available now at www.upperplayground.com and well worth the $25.

An artist by the name of Brian Jungen popped up on our radar recently. He’s got an interesting view on the sneaker’s place in modern America. Check out the altered-Airs here.

Frank151 Reviews “Lichido”

Something recently arrived at the Frank151 HQ via snail mail. Now don’t get us wrong, we get a lot of things in the mail.  However, Most of  them aren’t this eye-catching. As soon as we tore through the packaging to reveal a beautiful bottle of booze the office was a buzz with oo-what’s-that ’s and let-me-try-some’s. Battling back our wide-eyed coworkers, my fellow blogman and I made a Parkour - esque escape out the window and fled home to get our taste on.
These beautiful bottles house an 18% alcohol by volume liqueur dubbed Lichido. A product of France, Lichido is, "an exotic blend of premium vodka and carefully aged French cognac with the natural essences of lychees, tropical guavas and whitepeach juice." They suggest taking it straight or on ice, as well as mixing it into a cocktail.
We can  assure you that the colorful design does not stop with the packaging. Sweeter than most wines, Lichido rivals any hard lemonade or cider in its taste as well as its versatility as a mixer. Who knows? Now that Cristal is out Lichido might be popping up in rap videos and classy strip clubs all across the nation. Don’t nap on this one. Get your bottle at www.lichido.com.

Kelli Brat

Monday, August 7th, 2006

We are glad to inform you that San Fran Sisco based artist Kelli Brat is currently "…enjoying the pants off Frank 151…"  Thank you Kelli.  We are also happy to inform you that her work is completely off the hook.  Her art has a real original flow which we find lovely.  She has accumulated a hefty list of shows, commisions, and interesting press.  All of which can be viewed right here.

This was big on the web comedy circuit like three or four years ago.  Luckily I still had it saved in my favorite places.  This guy’s blog is still being updated to this day.

Here’s what happens when you let a cute kid watch a violent movie. We have no doubt he’s referencing a Steven Seagal flick.
