If you’re ever in the mood to let out some of your frustrations with the man, pick up a copy of the highly controversial, The Spook Who Sat by the Door. In 1973, when the movie hit theaters, it was quickly taken off the screen for its politically controversial subject matter and prior to it’s dvd release in 2004, this film was nearly impossible to come by. Spook, an adaptation of Sam Greenlee’s novel of the same name, follows Dan Freeman through his integration as the first black CIA agent. But right after his graduation as an official agent Danny boy resigns and heads to Chicago to train an all black squad of guerrilla soldiers. Made on a shoestring budget, this film reaveals an often underrepresented slice of black ideology in the 60s and 70s and it probably scared the shit out of some white people back in the day of its first release. Not only does it have a sick soundtrack by Herbie Hancock some of the audio samples from the movie are used in some Dead Prez songs. So don’t look now cause the revolution is coming.
