Rich Bitch

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Congratulations to Leona Helmsley’s dog Trouble on inheriting $12 million. Helmsley, who died early this month, left a $12 million trust to Trouble, her beloved white Maltese dog–now that’s one rich bitch. She also didn’t leave anything to two of her four grandchildren. (via Yahoo News)

To put things into perspective, there is currently a massive effort underway to buy mosquito nets to help protect people in Africa from Malaria. According to the World Health Organization, malaria still kills an estimated one million people every year, many whom are African children 5 years old and younger.

“In Kenya, from 2004 to 2006, a near ten-fold increase in the number of young children sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets was observed in targeted districts, resulting in 44% fewer deaths than among children not protected by nets, according to preliminary data from the Government of Kenya.” (source WHO

At a cost of about $5 per net, that $12 million could have bought 2,400,000 mosquito nets, saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Well, at least the dog will be comfortable.

LTD MagBig up to Hawaii Mike on the latest issue of LTD Mag. The latest issue looks great, however we couldn’t help but notice that Frank’s Chop Shop keeps getting over looked in the “spots” section. Hawaii Mike, what’s good?

Free the Jena 6

Monday, August 27th, 2007

“A movement is growing in support of the Jena Six — the black Louisana high school students charged with attempted murder for a school fight in which a white student was beaten up. The fight broke out after white students hung three nooses from a tree where the black students had sat. “

Miss Teen South Carolina

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

We’re willing to bet Miss Teen South Carolina falls into that fifth. If it’s any consolation, she killed the swimsuit competition.
