Rich Bitch
Congratulations to Leona Helmsley’s dog Trouble on inheriting $12 million. Helmsley, who died early this month, left a $12 million trust to Trouble, her beloved white Maltese dog–now that’s one rich bitch. She also didn’t leave anything to two of her four grandchildren. (via Yahoo News)
To put things into perspective, there is currently a massive effort underway to buy mosquito nets to help protect people in Africa from Malaria. According to the World Health Organization, malaria still kills an estimated one million people every year, many whom are African children 5 years old and younger.
“In Kenya, from 2004 to 2006, a near ten-fold increase in the number of young children sleeping under insecticide-treated mosquito nets was observed in targeted districts, resulting in 44% fewer deaths than among children not protected by nets, according to preliminary data from the Government of Kenya.” (source WHO)
At a cost of about $5 per net, that $12 million could have bought 2,400,000 mosquito nets, saving hundreds of thousands of lives. Well, at least the dog will be comfortable.
