Danish streetwear company Fighters + Lovers was acquitted yesterday of conspiring to sponsor terrorist organizations.

F+L sold shirts featuring logos of the Farc (the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine). The Farc is in a 40-year conflict with Colombian state forces and right-wing paramilitary groups; and combining secular Marxist philosophy with Palestinian nationalism, the PFLP runs schools & health clinics, decries Muslim fundamentalism – and also carries out attacks, including suicide bombings, on Israeli settlements and military forces.

Company offices were raided last year after F+L pledged 5 euros ($7.30) from each sale towards financing a Farc radio station, and a PFLP graphics design shop which produces Palestinian posters. F+L based their defense on the argument that, contrary to US and EU claims, the groups aren’t actually terrorist but in fact legitimate resistance groups — a view shared by the UK, the UN and, apparently, the judge who tried the case. 

Be happiest for Fighters+Lovers’ unintentional mascot, a sausage cart vendor named Preben Mikkelsen who was arrested after putting an F+L poster on his cart in Copenhagen.

Knockoffs, rip-offs, take-offs, mockbusters… call ‘em what you will. Low-budget, barely legal, direct-to-video imitations of mainstream studio hits have kept tiny LA movie companies in business since the 80’s.

The top mockbuster studio in today’s video store market is The Asylum; they’re responsible for cinematic gems like AVH: Alien vs Hunter, Pirates of Treasure Island, Transmorphers and the genius Snakes on a Train — which is arguably more fun than the Plane.

Even better, The Asylum works FAST. When a new big-budget studio release is announced, Asylum’s producers start riffing on ideas for their version. They script and cast it in a couple of weeks, then shoot, print and cut it so quick the movie’s on video store shelves within 3 months — before the official blockbuster even hits theaters.

Dig the preview for I Am Omega, The Asylum’s take on Big Willie’s apocalyptic studio flick dropping tomorrow. Their DVD’s been out since November 20.

In the US there are four ski resorts that still do not allow snowboarding. Needless to say, Burton is not happy about this. It is high time that these four resorts realize that we are in the 21^st century, and skiers and riders can peacefully coexist on the same mountain.

Burton is offering $5,000 per video of a snowboarder or snowboarders poaching the ‘virgin’ snow on each of the four mountains. In Burton’s own words; “In the face of this blatant disregard for the Constitution of the

United States of America, poaching isn’t a simply a peaceful from of protest; it’s truly your patriotic duty. It’s time we take a stand and let these elitists know that it’s not acceptable to discriminate. Period for their first full-length musical excursion: Searching for Rick Rubin, a mixtape that pays homage to the legendary producer’s eclectic catalog by replaying, recreating and remixing a diverse assortment of Rubin classics.  Rather than simply sampling and spinning tracks, Game Rebellion’s guitar heroes reinterpret Rubin’s classic riffs on their own, combining live instrumentation and classic recordings for a unique mixtape experience.

Last week Frank151 took it down to South Beach in Miami during the annual international Art Basel festival to celebrate Book 31: The Love Revolution, curated by Lenny Kravitz.  On the wheels was none other than Lenny’s cousin DJ Ruckus.
