Rail fan and model train enthusiast Mellow Mike creates hyper realistic miniaturized versions of America’s rolling stock. Accurate down to the graffiti art, Mike makes his models using photo references and then “poses� his finished creations over background shots giving his work that surreal look.

“You’ll quickly notice that the majority of my contemporary freight cars have graffiti on them. I am not a tagger in real life, nor do I condone such activity. But because I strive to make my models look authentic, it means reproducing what I see outdoors.â€?

“I digitally photograph the real thing up close. Then, on my computer, I edit and clean the hi-res image. Finally, I reduce the image and print it out as a decal. In most cases, I will touch up the decal with some hand painting once it’s on the model.
