Lil Wayne Does “A Milli” on FNMTV

Friday, June 27th, 2008

From the Battlezone-on-DMT opening, to the nonstop victory lap, to the perfectly timed ending, its pretty clear why Wayne is selling “a milli plus” these days. The energy in this performance is off the charts, and it gives this clip enough enthusiasm to make it stand out amongst the viral video noisefuck that is “teh internets”. When was the last time a “viral” video really moved you? Wayne is an Afronaut.

Bonnie Dobbin

Here at Frank151, we’re always in awe of a good tattoo. So when we got the chance to get Bonnie Dobbin to lace us with some words, we jumped at the chance. Bonnie may just be one of the top tattoo artists (male or female) worldwide. She is also known to have one of the lightest hands in the game. People love her work, because it’s very detailed, but applied with just enough ink to get the job done. Bonnie happens to work out of Vancouver, Canada, but you can find her travelling the world, tattooing some of the biggest names in music and extreme sports. Some of her canvases have included the bodies of members of Green Day and Neruosis, as well as a slew of professional BMX riders and Skaters, including the legendary Art Godoy. In addition, she has amassed quite a career as a fine artist as well, doing shows with Sheppard Fairey and Alex Grey. Read it all straight from the artists mouth after the jump.

Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

On the corner of 155th and Frederick Douglas Boulevard in Harlem lies Rucker Park. By appearances, the concrete pavement, anchored on one side by its run down slab bleachers, is no different than any other basketball court in the city, but this is the place where nicknames are indelibly branded, and legends are born.

On September 1, 2006, the top 24 high school basketball players in the nation stepped out on this court, that once saw the likes of Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Dr. J to compete in the first annual “Elite 24” all-star game. GUNNIN’ FOR THAT #1 SPOT follows eight of these players as they prepare to showcase their skills at the most legendary playground in the world.

Directed by Adam Yauch (MCA of the Beastie Boys and director of “Awesome; I F***ing Shot That!”), the documentary trails these players on the fast track to the NBA, as they are being groomed to be in the spotlight of a multi-million dollar game. Combining Yauch’s unique directing style with raw hip hop music, GUNNIN’ highlights these soon to be NBA All Stars.

The film opens this Friday, June 27th. Check listings here.

Friday June 27th is National HIV testing day

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

aidspreview.jpg
“Take the Test, Take Control”, is the theme for this years National HIV testing day. Plenty of resources and free testing clinics are available in your area. This proclamation is one of the more educated deeds by George W. Bush

“Every day, 8,000 lives are lost in the global AIDS pandemic. In our country, nearly I million people are infected with HIV, and approximately 40,000 more contract it each year. National HIV Testing Day is an opportunity for Americans to increase their awareness of this terrible disease and to get tested for HIV/AIDS. By working together to end this pandemic, our Nation’s citizens contribute to a brighter future for themselves and for people around the world.”
