Luda 4 Obama

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Ludacris recently dropped this Obama endorsement rap. Obama’s campaign didn’t find it so catchy. Obama spokesman Bill Burton released the following statement: “This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain, and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear.”

That Joke Is Getting Old

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

A team of researchers, led by humour expert Dr Paul McDonald of the University of Wolverhampton has published a list of what they claim are the world’s 10 oldest jokes. Researchers believe the following Summerian funny is the oldest on record:

Something which has never occurred since time immemorial: a young woman did not fart in her husband’s lap (1900 BC – 1600 BC Sumerian Proverb Collection 1.12-1.13)

While, not the oldest, the Chop Shop crew should get a kick out of this ancient barber joke:

Asked by the court barber how he wanted his hair cut, the king replied: “In silence.” (Collected in the Philogelos or “Laughter-Lover” the oldest extant jest book and compiled in the 4th/5th Century AD)

The study was commissioned by the folks over at The Dave Historical Humour Study. Check out the top ten oldest jokes, and the full study here.

Heads Up

Thursday, July 31st, 2008
A man on a Greyhound bus travelling across the Canadian Prairies has killed and decapitated a fellow passenger. An eyewitness said the victim was stabbed 50 or 60 times by the man sitting next to him, who then severed his head with a large knife. The bus made an emergency stop to allow passengers to escape and the driver barred the door from the outside while waiting for the police to arrive.

Frank Says Legalize

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Showing that there might just be some hope yet for the U.S government to do something that makes sense, representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts has said “the U.S. should stop arresting responsible marijuana users.”

Frank, along with Texas Republican Ron Paul, has put forth House Resolution 5843, entitled “The Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2008″. If HR 5843  passes, the bill will support marijuana smokers possessing up to 100 grams - about 3½ ounces - of cannabis, without being arrested. It would also give its blessing to the “nonprofit transfer” of up to an ounce of marijuana.

The resolution does not address laws forbidding growing, importing, exporting, or selling it for profit. The resolution also does not speak to state laws regarding marijuana use.

Current laws targeting marijuana users place undue burdens on law enforcement resources, punish ill Americans whose doctors have prescribed the substance, and unfairly affect African-Americans, said Frank. He went on to state, “The vast amount of human activity ought to be none of the government’s business. I don’t think it is the government’s business to tell you how to spend your leisure time.”

Leave it up to a guy named Frank to finally bring some common sense to Washington.

Practical Jetpack

Jetpack

New Zealand inventor Glenn Martin has unveiled a new jet pack at the annual EAA AirVenture air show in Oshkosh, WI. What makes Martin’s design revolutionary, is that it can fly for as long as 30 minutes at a time. Up until now, jet packs have only been able to stay aloft for a few minutes at a time. Martin’s design has two rotors encased in ducts, making for a more efficient design. The inventor has found investors, and hopes to bring the product to the marketplace shortly, with an estimated price tag of $100,000.

You can click here to check out the NY Times full account (including video) of flying with the jetpack.

Ganja Gambling

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

This guy was up at a casino gambling, when he was running low on funds. Instead of walking away from the table and calling it a night, he pulled a bag of herb out and tried using it to place a bet. Talk about a losing streak.
