Rest In Peace Peter Steele

Peter Steele, lead singer and bassist of Type O Negative has died of heart failure.

Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. His ominous stature (6' 7") and deep voice helped to distinguish Type O in the world of metal. The most unique element of Type O Negative however, was their autobiographical content—perhaps the most self reflective of any metal band.

While most metal bands were giving youth endless reasons to be depressed, Steele engaged them in conversation. His constant romanticization of death was never from a shocking or angst-ridden place, rather a desire for the closure all living eventually seek.

He will be eternally missed.

I remember many years ago Peter faked his death. The Type O site was only one page, a plaque reading Peter Steel and birt/death dates. In the end it was just the band having fun as they revamped the site. To think hes really dead now though...strange, a huge loss to the world of music. May Carnavore live forever
