By The Time I Get To Arizona 2010

Minneapolis Rapper/Political Activist Toki Wright sent out a call to friends and family a couple weeks ago in regards to the Senate Bill 1070 (SB 1070) that was signed into law in the state of Arizona. The bill states, “All immigrants MUST carry documentation verifying their immigration statues.” This bill also gave authority to police officers to ask for this documentation who seem suspicious. Is this right?! Nah. Did Arizona just legalize racial profiling?!

Toki took the initiative to redo the Public Enemy song, “By The Time I Get To Arizona,” which was originally written when Arizona didn’t want to recognize Martin Luther King Day. Wright rewrote parts of the song with updated information while still following Chuck D’s exact cadence. It took 24 hours to put the track together and get it out to the masses.

The song was well received that Wright took to the streets and put together a video with International Workers Day March that started at Martin Luther King Park. Below is the video that Toki filmed with the help of Director/Editor Adam J Dunn, Producer Chris Cloud for MPLS.TV, and Co-Director of Photography Shannon Reddy and Zeke the Freak.
