Onra - "Long Distance"

When you get your hands on the Onra album, get ready to take a trip back, through the filter of today's most happening musical methods. Onra clearly survives on a steady diet of the funk, jazz and soul of the 70's, but he's also extra hip to the current and future musical trends being played out by a worldwide cast of future funk and electronic producers.
A native of France, who we've been trained to expect quality productions from, Onra is now on his third full-length release. With this album, you get polished, well crafted funk and broken beat laced rhythms, along with vocals from T3 of Slum Village, Walter Mecca, Olivier Daysoul, Reggie B, and others. The best thing about this album is that as soon as you think it's a future-funk/soul affair, it shifts to a rap tune, and the scratching comes in, or you get hit over the head with a straight electro-dance beat, challenging your idea of where this whole journey was going. Like a good DJ, Onra takes you somewhere, and leaves you off somewhere else, for you to decide on your own where you've actually been.
