New York State Increases Cigarette Tax

Another reason for New Yorkers to quit smoking - starting July 1, cigarettes in New York City will now cost an average of $11 a pack. New York State Legislature passed a bill on Monday that will give the state the highest cigarette tax in the United States. The new law is part of an emergency plan to keep the government running. So it's not that New York wants New Yorkers to be healthy, it's that if you're smoking, you might as well help the government run. Learn more here.

07.02.10 11:35PMI'm sorry but I as smoker I think it is total discrimination against us smokers. So what if we want to kill ourselves faster let us do it. No one seems to realize that being an alcholic is 10 times more life threating that being a smoker. At least we can't kill anybody when we are driving and smoking. Smoking doesn't impare your judgement like alcohol and other drugs. So if they really want to increase a tax increase it on alcohol!!!!!
