Dust La Rock: Joking Victim at HVW8 Gallery
On April 14th, Dust La Rock, the co-founder and creative director of Fool’s Gold, an independent record label, and contributor and cover artist of Chapter 44: Fool’s Gold, will be making his first gallery appearance at HVW8 Gallery in LA. The exhibit entitled “Joking Victim” is a mixed media collaboration consisting of works on paper, photographs and a short film that brings La Rock’s vision to life. Other participating artists are photographers Angela Boatwright and Kareem Black, and the tattoo artist JK5. The opening night will feature a performance by the Fool’s Gold producers and DJs Jokers Of The Scene and the debut of Bruce LaBruce’s queer cinema horror film “L.A. Zombie” followed by a Q+A.
“Joking Victim” addresses the themes of BDSM, death and the religious philosophy of magic through the exploration of the duality of pain and pleasure in which people use and abuse their bodies to satisfy their impulses. In some of the pieces, La Rock uses his own body as a canvas and bodily fluids as a medium to accentuate his message.
The show runs from April 14th – May 8th and the Opening Reception is on April 14th from 7:00-10:00 pm.
