SABER: The American Graffiti Artist (Photo Recap)

On Cinco de Mayo we celebrated “The American Graffiti Artist”—the solo show of our good friend SABER. Frank was cordially invited to the Private Opening at Opera Gallery in NY, and had the chance to experience this body of work in a great setting.

On a day that President Obama was also in town paying respects at Ground Zero, there was a strong vibe surrounding the artist and his work. SABER donned the "Oval Office Look," complete with a stars and stripes lapel pin. Saber spoke with everyone in the room, telling stories and filling us in on his vision.

Airs of mystery and history were notable in each and every piece. From the tag over tag ripping through white canvas, to the triptych, to the US Flags.

The pieces spoke of an artist and his depth. The SABER wildstyle pieces were executed with layer upon layer of mastery. A personal favorite, the collection of three abstract canvases: red, white and blue. Each invoking a unique feeling and an entirely different one when viewed as a whole.

It’s in the flags where another story is told. Graffiti is an American art that is intertwined in the fabric of society. Even if a bit grimy and dark at times there is always beauty, evolution and perseverance.

Thank you for sharing your perspective homey. We’re all eager to see what’s next.
