Lulz Sec Hackers Unfazed After "Arrests"

We published a post last week talking about the new trend of celebrity hackers, in particular the group Lulz Sec, who've accessed information in huge, supposedly secure corporations, no less than the CIA at one point. They have an enormous Twitter following of over 250,000, whom they regularly incite to join in the fun, opening request lines for followers to suggest targets and sharing newfound user information and passwords with whomever's interested.

The press splashed around some headlines over the weekend that an English teenager Ryan Cleary had been taken into custody, and was an important part of the operation. Lulz Sec responded nonchalantly on Twitter, saying that none of their operatives has been caught. They then proceeded to ask their followers to bombard The Sun, who reported the story, in an attempt to crash their site.

The big news however is this brand new interview with Gawker, where one of the LulzSec members says they feel "safer than ever." The member, who goes by the name "Topiary," clarifies Lulz Sec's philosopy and explains that the relationship between themselves and Ryan Cleary is tenuous, despite the fact Cleary has now been formally charged. Saying they feel safer than ever makes me wonder if they're getting cocky, or if they're genuinely smarter than the system right now. Scary.

This artist interpretation of Ryan Cleary comes via The Telegraph.
