Shepard Fairey Attacked (Photos)

Shepard Fairey, the cover artist for Chapter 31: Love Revolution, has recently been in Copenhagen working on the Your Ad Here project at V1 gallery. For the most part, the trip seems to have been going fairly smoothly until Fairey's most recent post on his website. Fairey aka Obey was attacked by a group of youths after an opening party at V1. The attack happened after a few of his legally sanctioned murals were bombed. Are these occurrences related or just coincidence?

All’s well that ends well right! Not so fast… things were peaceful for a few days, but the mural was fire extinguisher bombed last night. Like I said, I tried to work out a positive solution for the wall and I can only control my own actions, not the actions of others. I have always understood that street art is nothing to be precious about. The fate of the mural is out of my hands now, but I’m sad that such a great piece by the RaxArt guys was attacked. It was clearly a piece about social justice and I find the attack senselessly barbaric. It’s not the first time I’ve encountered hostilities, but this is one of the most dramatic, and I’d say demoralizing if I even let that possibility exist. I took note long ago listening to Black Flag that it is imperative to RISE ABOVE, so that’s what I’ll continue to do. Despite some negativity, my drive to do positive things is constantly fueled by the amazing support people have shown me and my art… thank you!!
