08.25.11 11:21PMin order to illustrate/ how much this means to me/ i gotta start at my beginning/ right here in nyc./ at the very height/ of the crack epidemic/ my parents shared a wall/ with def jam records./ in my crib on elizabeth street/ is where i met my fate/ it was literally set in stone/ that great hip hop would resonate./ i aint gonna beg/ i aint gonna plead/ cause im sure that someone out there/ is slightly more broke than me./ and for the whole community/ i havent done as well/ not workin the museum/ like DJ FTL./ I wish i had time to be a mentor/ the energy to do more/ if i win i promise/ Urban Art Beats i'll support./ cause these artists made it possible/ for kids to have a voice/ to have a creative outlet/ proved your future is your choice./ i aint no rapper/ hardly a musician/ but ive been dedicated to the lifestyle/ and have always had a mission:
I wanna bathe in diamonds/ and dry off in fur/ so at least send me to this concert/ so i can get a man/ with the lifestyle i deserve ;)
for real though ive got a long list of friends who mentor kids in hip hop and have always been drawn to the method of education through music. its the most powerful art form cause your body cant help but groove to the rhythm and sway to the beat, but when you listen to those lyrics you get knocked off your feet. i want to be a part of the history being made n recorded. i just cant afford this show but am dyin to support it. xo

08.25.11 5:49PMI need Rock the Bells like my stomach needs food! I need Rock the Bells the way a dance floor needs a good DJ. I need Rock the Bells just like how grass needs water. I need Rock the Bells to take me back to when I first put hip hop in my boom box! This is epic concert that I can't miss, that nobody should miss.

08.25.11 2:51AMPeace DJ FTL from Brooklyn. To be able to go to this would make my whole year. I dedicate my life to the culture. I grew up immersed in hip-hop. Started off a b-boy and when I got older I became a dj. I have pushed the underground scene when I dj and sometimes I've been one of the few djs in NYC that has been playing mcs like DOOM , Immortal Technique ,Killah Priest at clubs and parties since the mid to late 1990s. At times it has cost me to not sellout with playing mainstream music. I stay playing and promoting all of the acts on this lineup like Nas and Wu-Tang and always stay true to what I believe in and consider real hip-hop.
When I miss these events it actually hurts my soul. I definitely don't have the money for the ticket this year and it does not seem like I have anyway of getting in with anyone I know. Personally I feel like I should be playing at these events since I know I'm a great dj. So that already makes me a little upset but when I miss them all together I feel like I'm missing the one thing in life I want to see.
I also work for the National Museum Of Hip-Hop and I think it would be great to have some of our representatives there. We are doing a lot for the community and we are going to be doing much more. So a connection between the two of us would be a good one.
This mix I did should win me the tickets: http://soundcloud.com/dj-ftl/ftl-radio-raheems-revenge Check it and the other mixes and maybe that will influence your decision.Either way much success on the event. I really hope I win the tickets because not much would make me happier!!!

08.25.11 1:43AMWhy do I want to go to Rock The Bells New York 2011??? Why not? LOL… Truth is that is such a hard question to answer since there are so many answers. On a monetary level, school has really prevented me from attending music concerts since they are not typically free and my funds are limited. I am fortunate enough to know some people/methods to get into parties around Manhattan so my social life is not a total drag but those connections/methods have never gotten me into concerts especially on this caliber. It somewhat hurts that my college education (something that is supposed to help me in the future) is practically serving as a burden and preventing me from attending the concert of my dreams. On a more universal front, Hip-Hop/Soul music has proven capable of transcending different races, classes, cultures and people from all different walks of life. What better way of embracing their effects than being at this historical concert? On a more personal level, I grew up listening to Hip-Hop/Soul, these artists in particular, so attending Rock The Bells would be such a rewarding and nostalgic experience. As much as I like artists like Erykah Badu’s and Nas’s more recent material, their early/debut work holds a special place in my heart; it is a vital part of my history. I feel reluctant to have grown up in a time when people like Erykah Badu, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Cypress Hill and Nas ruled the airwaves, Billboard charts and music channels alike. It is such a shame that today’s popular songs (Top 20 on the Billboard 100) is usually so banal and comes off as more of a novelty versus as art or didactic. Winning these tickets would be such a blessing not only because I want to go so badly (desperate here) but also because it would feel good to know that I have been heard. I only hope that if do not win these tickets then someone who wants to go as bad as me wins them.
P.S. Another reason I want to go is probably because I will probably be the one to start a “peaceful riot” if Nas and Ms. Lauryn Hill do not perform “If I Ruled The World (Imagine That)” LOL. I know that the song is featured on his second album “It Was Written” and he is supposed to be representing “Illmatic” but come on… how many opportunities are we as fans going to have to see them perform the classic song

08.23.11 5:57PMThat exclusive lineup that features some of my favorite artists is awesome! I would love to be a part of that night!

08.23.11 4:34PMMusic is an international language.. people in other countries don't speak a lick of English yet know the lyrics to many hip-hop songs. It amazes me how many people normally wouldn't be in the same room can all come together to enjoy the same artists. I'd love to be apart of that if you let me..

08.22.11 4:39PMIn order to discuss Hip-Hop, one must first define Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is not just about rap music; it is about an attitude. It is the culture from which rap emerged. It is a lifestyle with its own language, style of dress, music, and mindset that is continually evolving. Rock the bells is the purest form of this. I bleed real hip hop and I'm old enough to understand it's origins. Some how some way I will be in attendance to watch history in the making!

08.22.11 2:38PMAs usual, Rock The Bells has put together another all-star lineup. I would love to take my new wife to this, but since we just found out we're already pregnant, I'd let her relax in a more sane environment and instead bring my brother/best man. We would toast before, during, and after the show to love, fatherhood, and this beautiful force called Hip-Hop :)

08.22.11 1:48PMYO YO YO, Frank151! It's ya boy, T-stevez, Native of the BX, HOME to the birthplace of Hip-Hop!
Bless me with these tickets and you won't regret it! I'm the biggest fan of em all...
Nasty Nas is probably the greatest ever (you can't forget that AZ and Pete Rock will be with him. Not to mention AZ is amazing and his Mic got f-ed up at the '08 RTB), LAURYN HILL (I miss her music, it would be CRAZYY to see her live after all these years in hiding), BADUIZM (enough said), Blackstar (I've seen them perform at BBKings downtown (soo good), of course THE INFAMOUS (I can listen to that album 5 million times and not get tired of it), Rae, Ghost, GZA (any amount of members from Wu-tang is a good day in my books), BLU & EXILE!! (I been obsessed with below the heavens and everything they've done since that project after hearing it), Cypress Hill, DOOM, Souls of mischief, Black Moon, Slaughterhouse, man the list goes on and on.
I been working a minimum wage job the whole summer, pleeease, hook it UP, and send me to this concert...
What could be better than sending a die-hard Hip-Hop Head to the spot where proper respect is due. YEEEHHDIIIIGG!
Peace, Love, and Prosperity,
T-Stevez

08.22.11 1:04PMBecause the last time I saw Ghost in NY with Wu-Tang, I got on stage in front of 4,000 people and danced with him while he was performing Cher Chez La Ghost and I want to do it again! I was also supposed to go Dave Chappelle's Block Party, but I gave the tickets away because I was teaching girls in Brownsville, Brooklyn that day and didn't want to miss my class. I had to miss Lauryn and Erykah instead, and to this day haven't seen either of them perform.

08.22.11 12:52PMI have never been to Rock the Bells and have always wanted to go. Souls of Mischief is one of my all time favorite groups and I would love to see them perform 93 Til Infinity!!

08.20.11 9:50AMI've never been to Rock the Bells. Every year, either I was broke or had to work. My boys have gone the past 3 years and always came back telling me how awesome it was. Once again, I'm broke. My boys were gonna buy me a ticket, but then when the date of the show came out, I realized it was the same day as my girlfriend's birthday. I told them forget it cause I knew they couldn't afford getting her a ticket too, and there is no way I'm leaving my lady by herself on her birthday. it would be something like a miracle if I got those tickets. It would be killing two birds with one stone. I'd finally get to go the show and my girl would have the best birthday in a long time (Baduizm is one of her favorite albums, so I know she'd flip if she got to hear it live!). As a hip hop head, I gotta make out there some how...

08.19.11 9:18PMAlright so here it is.
I just moved to NYC so that I could see shows like this cause they do not come to CHI town as much as here, NYC the birth place of Hip Hop. Most of these albums getting played in full have been and still are some of my favorite of all time. I have had everything from Hockey practice to serious skate sessions jamming out. I would love to go back to Chicago for the Labor day weekend cause I lost a friend a couple of years ago over the holiday weekend and we have a big bash at his parents lake house where we just sit back and have a blast with 100+ friends. Telling stories, making music, tons of DJ's playing wax, grilling, lovin and living. Since I can't be around my friends that weekend the only other thing that would make me smile as much as that would be winning a couple of pass's to Rock The Bells and just groove to some dope music all day as I reminisce about my man who can't be there that day. He is in my thoughts when I listen to the rhymes that talk about the same times that they had with friends and family that are no longer here with us.. I love me some Frank 151 and hip hop culture. This would be the best way to celebrate life and hip hop culture the correct and peaceful way.. Thanks for being a supporter of present day great hip hop.
Peace

08.19.11 12:38PMThis lineup is out of this world. Hill to Badu. Black Star to DOOM. Nas doing Illmatic to Black Moon doing Enta Da Stage. This show is going to be one for the ages and I for one will get there regardless. Hook it up so I can take a plane instead of the train.
