Burma Skate (Video)
A group of young English filmmakers made it their mission to make a short documentary about Burma "behind the headlines," i.e. what day-to-day life is like for the Burmese, and not just another tale of the oppressive regime that the country is otherwise known for. What makes it really interesting is how they manage to document their experiences while knowing full well that journalists of any kind are totally banned in this country. They use their experience as skaters to connect with the local people, even going to a local skate park with a fascinating history. For more skating in far flung locations, see Skateistan in Frank Chapter 39: Middle East.
Filmed in the summer of 2009, Altered Focus: Burma follows three film makers and skateboarders including Harmony and Analog UK rider Ali Drummond, as they travel across Yangon and Mandalay. The film explores the reaction to this unseen activity whilst touching on the political situation there.
Running Time: 19minutes
