Frank Chapter 43: Bug Out! Mix by Rob Wonder

Boogie In Barcelona (Photo)

Remember in The Wire, when the pissed-off shipping guys decided to steal a police van and send it around the world, complete with complimentary photos to mark each new and exotic destination? Frank contributor Boogie is like that, but with better photos. Every couple of months we receive an email from this ex-Serbian-war photographer stuffed full of snaps and little to no explanation. After receiving his latest album from Barcelona, we decided to ask...

Boogie, what were you doing in Barcelona?

I went to Barcelona with my wife, it was our first vacation without the kids, and it was amazing - we felt like normal people again, not just parents. We ate, drank, walked a lot, and of course I took some pictures along the way.

What sort of visual inspiration does Barcelona offer for the photographer?

Barcelona is amazing, you have a mix of cultures and races, but there is no tension that you feel in some other mixed cities. It's a pretty laid back city, so it's not my normal cup of tea when it comes to shooting, but as we know inspiration is mostly in your head, any city can do it.

What do you like best about the city?

Food and wine. it has a great balance of everything you want and need in the city, looks like a perfect place to live. People look pretty happy there in general.

Do you have some tips for visitors to Barcelona?

Just walk a lot and get lost, watch for pickpockets--they are notorious for being the best in Europe--but if you're a bit street smart you'll be fine.
