Bob Recine "Alchemy of Beauty"

In Chapter 46: Steve Olson, Steve interviewed a cast of creatives as broad as anyone could have possibly thrown at us. Among them, hairdresser Bob Recine, although the term seems slightly lacking to describe Bob's work--perhaps just "artist" is better, but hair is his main medium.

Through his transcendent view of the possibilities, Bob has defined the meaning of "visionary" in hair. He works with A-listers such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Naomi Watts, Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Kate Hudson, Renee Zellweger, Uma Thurman and Tilda Swinton, and has been known to use materials like headphones or sunglasses, Play-Doh, wire and cellophane to dramatic effect. Not surprisingly, he's the man behind some of Lady Gaga's show-stopping looks.

Bob Recine's new book Alchemy of Beauty is a compendium of his greatest works, as well as original artwork, sketches, collages and paintings. Wwith art direction by Fabien Baron and photography by none other than Mario Sorrenti, the book is available for pre-order here.
