Centre-fuge Public Art Project Opening in LES
Frank homey, Pebbles van Peebles and I, Neville, bring to you and the Lower East Side, Centre-fuge, a public art project that will bring color to a neighborhood currently plagued with construction. The project will take over a pop-up trailer that is being used as makeshift offices for the 2nd Avenue subway line construction.
Welcome to Centre-fuge, a public art project that will bring joy and color to the currently-construction-ridden-losing-culture-with-things-like-the-destruction-of-Mars Bar Lower East Side!
Pebbles Russell and Jonathan Neville became weary of looking at the drab gray trailer that sat in the bike lane on the South East side of E 1st Street and 1st Avenue. Upon finding out that the trailer would remain on the block for the extent of the subway construction, Pebbles and Jon grew worried, upset and anxious. Every day they will have to gaze upon the rotating shades of gray that are painted on weekly to hide the mostly sloppy graffiti that reappears as soon as the new gray dries.
NO, they said, we will not stand for this. We will turn this trailer into a beautiful art piece that not only will bring joy to our lives, but also to the lives of the entire Lower East Side and East Village residents as well as to the broader NYC community, tourist and all that ilk!
Many months later… the project is finalized and CENTRE-FUGE LIVES!
The Project will be up for a year and the art will constantly be changing, so be sure stop by and see what’s going on. The first installation will be on view Monday the 23rd. Make sure to check out the Centre-fuge Tumblr to stay in the know.
