Havana 2003

Words and photos: Boogie

I took these images in 2003, when I spent two weeks in Havana. What struck me was how safe the city was. I thought it was because there was a cop on every corner, but it probably wasn’t just that. Socioeconomic differences didn’t exist; everyone was poor. But also, everyone had enough to survive, by default. So no matter what, you would never starve or lose your shelter. Plus, rum was very cheap. I remember when my country, Serbia, was like that.  I’ll definitely try to go to Cuba again while Fidel Castro is alive.
