We’ve just discovered Jay Smooth’s new Youtube channel. Check out Jay’s nice little George Carlin remix here, along with his commentary on Hipster rappers.

Houston Beef!

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Last month, The City of Houston proclaimed July 22nd, Trae day.

In honor of his outstanding work within the community, the city of Houston is honoring Trae with his own day, the first time this honor has been extended to a rap artist.

Last night Houston hosted the final night of the Ozone awards at the George R. Brown convention center. Some unexpected beef arose with Trae (Rap-A-Lot) punching Mike Jones, leaving him with a bloody nose. Here is what Trae had to say.

Fox News: Getting What’s Coming To ‘Em

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Nas, Rik Cordero & Three/21 Media put a serious slap on Fox News…

Nas - Sly Fox Video

Right on. One of the best videos we’ve seen in forever. Black Eyed Peas could learn a few things about using news footage.

As a tie-in for all our Fox-haters out there, just in case you didn’t catch it the first time it went around, documentary filmmaker Robert Greenwald put together OutFoxed, an amazing exposé on Fox News and their propagandist tactics. Check the preview out below…

It’s kind of really disturbing, especially when you consider that Fox’s Rupert Murdoch is apparently making it his mission to buy up all the major media in the country…  It’s ridiculous that owning both The New York Post and The Wall Street Journal doesn’t count as a city monopoly. Can we do something about this already??

Bike Sharing System

Leave it to the Canadians to do their part to be greener!

Over the past year, rumors on the Internet have been circulating about a new public bike system (PBS) that was in the works for North America (following the super-successful French system that’s 10,000 strong in Paris). Now our time has finally arrived, and the first American project looks like a winner.

New York City has a pilot bike-share program of its own, set to run from July 7 to July 11 this summer. Riders will be able to check a bike out and ride it to their destination for under .50 cents a trip throughout the week, and the test run’s results will be presented, along with speeches from design and transportation experts, July 9 - 11 at the Storefront for Art & Architecture (at 97 Kenmare St).

Read more about the Canadian bike sharing via Ecofriend; or about the New York City project and the worldwide movement from NYBikeShare directly.

The Boston Blade Flies Again!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

After returning from a work trip in Las Vegas, NV back to New York City, The Boston Blade was carelessly forgotten in a backpack that was carried onto the flight. Surprisingly, the Boston Blade made it through the TSA security line at Las Vegas McCarren International Airport without a hitch. While the line was over an hour long and wound throughout the airport, the x-ray scanners failed to notice that a heavy duty boxcutter (with 2 replacement blades) was indeed inside a backpack and would soon find its way onto a commercial flight flying across the friendly American skies. Good thing the Boston Blade meant no harm this time and was just trying to make its way back to New York to go back to work, laboriously slicing boxes.

We at Frank151 are usnure of how many box cutters still find their way on airplanes post 9-11, but we sure can say that this pesky Boston Blade always manages to find its way on board no matter how many security checkpoint and screenings are thrown at it. It definetly makes us a little nervous that a box cutter easily boards a flight and hope someone with ill-intentions doesn’t have the same sort of luck. Hopefully the TSA will find a solution to this security gap that doesnt include stripping us of our jet setting leisure, but instead easily stopping threats before they have the chance to do damage.

In other news, congratulations to the other Boston Blades, the Boston Celtics, for finally cutting off the Lakers’ heads. They had a great season & a championship to complement. Props to the veterans who finally got their shine.

Also, be on the lookout for the official FDL Boston Blades New Era Cap coming out this summer at your local FRN store.
