LSD Cured My Headache

By Arran Frood, Independent UK. Posted October 10, 2008.

This is the story of a man known online as Flash — a man driven to the brink of suicide by the debilitating effects of cluster headaches. After years of ineffectual treatments, Flash stumbled on what he declared was a new treatment, as controversial as it was, he claimed, effective: hallucinogenic drugs.

Flash was ridiculed by the cluster headache community for his “miracle cure”. But when a survey of fellow sufferers who self-medicated with hallucinogens was published in the mainstream journal Neurology, the results gave weight to his claims. The Harvard Medical School scientists who conducted the survey have now applied for a preliminary clinical trial on the subject.

Documentary Filmmaker, Christian Poveda sheds light on a subject, that is filled with dark circumstances, and is surrounded by violence.  His newest documentary, La Vida Loca, focuses on the daily life in a cell of one of the biggest cliques of M-18 in San Salvador, El Salvador.
20 years after a revolutionary war that devastated the nation, a new civil war has begun. This social unrest could have been contained within the U.S., but in 1996, the Illegal Immigrant Reform and the Immigrant Responsibility Act was put into affect, and it allowed the U.S.A. to deport more than 100,000 gang members, originally detained on U.S. soil, back to where they came from.Take a look at the trailer here.

Frank Says Legalize

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Showing that there might just be some hope yet for the U.S government to do something that makes sense, representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts has said “the U.S. should stop arresting responsible marijuana users.”

Frank, along with Texas Republican Ron Paul, has put forth House Resolution 5843, entitled “The Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2008″. If HR 5843  passes, the bill will support marijuana smokers possessing up to 100 grams - about 3½ ounces - of cannabis, without being arrested. It would also give its blessing to the “nonprofit transfer” of up to an ounce of marijuana.

The resolution does not address laws forbidding growing, importing, exporting, or selling it for profit. The resolution also does not speak to state laws regarding marijuana use.

Current laws targeting marijuana users place undue burdens on law enforcement resources, punish ill Americans whose doctors have prescribed the substance, and unfairly affect African-Americans, said Frank. He went on to state, “The vast amount of human activity ought to be none of the government’s business. I don’t think it is the government’s business to tell you how to spend your leisure time.”

Leave it up to a guy named Frank to finally bring some common sense to Washington.

Ganja Gambling

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

This guy was up at a casino gambling, when he was running low on funds. Instead of walking away from the table and calling it a night, he pulled a bag of herb out and tried using it to place a bet. Talk about a losing streak.

Cocaine Cowboys 2

Cocaine Cowboys was a great documentary, and the sequel is dropping July 29th. The team over at Rakontur Films continues to push it to the next level as they offer heretofore unseen insights into the explosive rise of the cocaine trade in the 1980s. They’ve just put the first 10 minutes of the new documentary online. Check the seven-minute mark for a great recipe on how to make crack (kids don’t try this at home)!

Smoking Helps Memory & Concentration

Monday, July 14th, 2008
Smoking can help boost memory and concentration, say scientists. The discovery offers hope of a nicotine pill that mimics these effects to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

Experts are developing drugs that copy the active ingredients in tobacco that stimulate the brain without causing heart disease, cancer, stroke or addiction.

The move follows the discovery that nicotine can boost the intelligence and recall ability of animals in laboratory experiments.

Proof that there’s something to be said for taking a cigarette break. (Note: Smoking sucks, kids don’t start smoking. Unless you want to look cool.)
