Pentagon Strike

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

pentagonstrike.jpgWith the 7th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks fast approaching, it’s time once again to reconsider their impact on history as we know it. And you know what that means: it’s time to entertain a conspiracy theory! What’s scary about the one Darren Williams posits in his video Pentagon Strike is its main sticking point: no wreckage of a Boeing 757 was ever found, photographed or otherwise documented. How is that possible when an 80 ton bird loaded with 5,300 gallons of fuel crashlands at 580 mph into a building made of concrete and steel? Coulda been a missile, coulda been a military plane, coulda been Rocky & Bullwinkle. The world may never know — especially since surveillance tapes from both a nearby gas station and a hotel were confiscated by the FBI and subsequently never released to the public. Spooky. . .

“Wrong Way” Corrigan, A Real Jet Set Hero

Monday, July 21st, 2008

wrongway.jpg

Cuz you’re still fiending for stories of aviation hijinx after the Jet Set Chapter of Frank151 dropped months ago, Frank commemorates the 70th anniversary of Douglas “Wrong Way” Corrigan’s flight across the Atlantic and into the hearts of wingnuts who thought Charles Lindbergh was a punk. Corrigan took off from Brooklyn, NY and wound up in Dublin, Ireland after over 28 hours in the air, despite having submitted a flight plan that named California as his destination.

When the Bureau of Air Commerce came-a knockin’ for an explanation, the seasoned pilot blamed a faulty compass and claimed he hadn’t noticed how off-course he was until 26 hours into the journey. The Irish prime minister welcomed him in the emerald capitol and New Yorkers threw a ticker-tape parade upon his return that outdid Lindbergh’s — all for shoveling so much bullshit onto The Man and getting away with it. What’s more, Corrigan pulled it off in a gangsta ride:

The thing is, Sunshine really was a crate. It was patched up and lashed together and, worse . . . had developed a gas leak that Corrigan decided he didn’t have time to repair. Gasoline actually leaked into the cockpit while the plane was over the Atlantic. Corrigan solved that problem by using a screwdriver to punch a hole in the cockpit floor.

Props to “Wrong Way” Corrigan for elevating the phrase ‘ghetto rig’ to a whole new level.

Mare 139’s “Freestyle Archityper”

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Mare 139, pioneer of the “style writing sculpture” opened his new exhibition, titled “Freestyle Archityper”, at Brighton University in Sussex this weekend. His exhibition thoroughly represents his continued transformation of graffiti and hip-hop imagery from the layup into the tangible, three-dimensional space. His pieces here have set a new standard. Brilliant.

Jamaica, Nuff Problems Man

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

In the Tuff Gong chapter of Frank151, we investigated Jamaica’s ongoing environmental crises that is being caused by bauxite mining on the island. Bauxite is a key ingredient used in manufacturing aluminum, and Jamaica happens to have some of the largest reserves in the world. The process of mining and processing bauxite can also be extremely toxic. While mining this resource should be economically beneficial to the people of Jamaica, politics and the business interests of international mining corporations have prevented much of the profits generated from reaching the people. In fact, the mining seems to have done more harm than good for your average Jamaican.

Now, from the Jamaican Bauxite Environmental Organization comes Jamaica, Nuff Problems Man, a new documentary shedding more light on the harmful practices of the bauxite mining industry. We implore you to take notice. The problem of bauxite mining in Jamaica highlights the dangerous effects of what happens when greed overshadows the basic needs of human beings.

Please don’t hesitate to forward this post or re-post the videos on your own blogs. The bauxite crisis in Jamaica has been destroying the land and peoples lives for far too long.
