Darkroom

Darkroom began in 2001 with the idea that there is more to a bar than just drinks. Combining two of the owner's passions—photography and mixology—darkroom keeps focus on maintaining a unique environment to showcase local photographers. The space is designed around the bar, which also functions as a photographer's lightbox, keeping true to the nature of the concept. Debonaire Social Club

1575 N Milwaukee Ave. , Chicago

A mod, black-tiled entrance gives way to an airy room anchored by an angled bar and split by a cordoned-off raised stage. Large projected video installations run in a dramatic band around the room, typically featuring artsy slow-mos. Downstairs features lurid red lighting and black mirrors where a DJ mashes rock, new wave, and house for girls in ankle boots and guys in skinny jeans
