Smokin Al's BBQ

What started as a stand at the Soulard Market in 2003 turned into Smokin’ Al’s at 1216 Hampton Avenue in St. Louis. Founder Al Solis, owner of Pueblo Solis, wanted to branch out beyond Mexican haute cuisine into homespun barbecue. Smokin’ Al’s stands out from the pack by using its signature wild cherry wood to smoke all its meat dishes. Ribs get an extra special touch with the addition of charcoal to the smokehouse. All of the meat comes from Iowa Beef Packers, which ensures consistent quality and size so diners can expect the same great taste on every visit. Smokin’ Al’s is proud to have served regular folks and celebrities alike. During the Rolling Stones’ concert stop in St. Louis on Jan. 27, 2006, Smokin’ Al’s served the band and its entourage ribs and sides. Canadian rockers the Barenaked Ladies stopped in the restaurant on their tour a few years ago and later sang an ode to Smokin’ Al’s at their show.
