Artists Patrick Martinez will now be offering his prints at Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto, Canada. Check them out here.
Patrick Martinez focuses on the phenomenology of his surroundings. His focus, subjects such as everyday people that aren't usually painted into the limelight and elements of the city that would be thought of as objects we take for granted. He strives to bring a sublime beauty to things that aren't thought of as conventionally beautiful. Patrick uses these objects as communicative mediums, working with intellect and intuition in creating pieces of art that reflect and document situations that are ever present around him. Vitality and rhythm are the essence and energy in his artwork.
VP Records sent us over this song from singer Gyptian, who's been killing things recently all over the reggae world of late. As you can tell by clicking play, the song is a heater. It's available for purchase on itunes here.

New Orleans Saint and Super Bowl Champ Reggie Bush was at the Red Bull party in Vancouver celebrating Shaun White's Olympic Gold Medal victory. Word is he was trying out snowboarding for the first time. Frank Photo Editor Craig Wetherby snapped him with Frank Book Chapter 39: Middle East.
According to an article posted on MSNBC, research has revealed that when men see a curvaceious woman, it triggers the reward center in their brain, similar to the affects of drinking alcohol or taking drugs. Scientist have also added that these findings may help explain the high enthusiasm men have towards pornography. It has become common knowledge that shapely hips in women, are associated with fertitlity and overhealth. To gather this data, researchers had 14 men, average age of 25, rate how attracted they found pictures of womens bare asses before and after plastic surgery to give these women more curvaceous hips was completed.

2010 Snowboard Halfpipe Bronze medalist Scotty Lago was excused from the Winter Games after some (hardly) incriminating photos surfaced.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – The fuddy-duddy suits who run the Vancouver Games got their scapegoat. Scotty Lago was kicked out of the Winter Olympics. Yes, kicked out.
Do not believe the party line served by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, nor the words of United States Olympic Committee spokesman Patrick Sandusky, who said: “Scotty left on his own accord. He wasn’t forced to leave.” Lago, the bronze medalist in halfpipe, was forced to leave, two sources close to him told Yahoo! Sports, and did so only to prevent an even greater escalation of a situation that already had been blown far out of proportion.
Lago is the smiling 23-year-old in the now-infamous pictures of an Olympic medalist celebrating. The photos are kids’ play, and yet because somebody caught Michael Phelps taking a bong hit, anything – anything – gets the USOC’s tighty-whities in a bunch.

Let the hate begin. We definitely won't be part of it though. We've been Drake supporters for a minute now, and we look forward to seeing him grow musically, and from the looks of this shoot he's definitely growing his brand.
Reggae fans are familiar with Sanchez, as he's been blessing mics with his golden singing voice for over 15 years. Before that, he was grinding as a popular DJ with the Rambo Soundsystem, performing as a "triple threat", where he was djing, toasting and singing over the tracks he would play.
His late 80's hit "Lady In Red" (a cover of Simply Red) won over a reggae world that has stayed checking for Sanchez' music until this day. This Tuesday February 9th VP Records brings the world Sanchez' next full length effort, entitled Now & Forever. This release is full of the singer's rootsy vibe that takes from today's American r&b and pop, while displaying the foundation reggae vibration that often goes missing in many of today's uptempo and computerized dance hall releases. Instead, you get a good-feeling, a sweet croon, and a steady skank. If you're looking for that rootical sound, and miss the days of reggae-past, this release is your ticket.
Vancouver native and New York artist Richard Hambleton was a contemporary of Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Worhol, although he may not have permeated pop culture the way the others did. Regardless, his combination of street and fine art are a perfect example of the parallel path he shared with those other artists. Seeing his progression makes you wonder what direction these other folks may have taken.
Richard's Mass Murder series depicted an artistic version of an all-too common appearance in the big city: the crime scene, chalked outline of bodies, and presence of blood. Displaying a strong sense of reality, Richard's work made quite an impression. He's since transitioned into his Beautiful Paintings series, a much different experience, yet a natural progression for him and his work. See him discussing the journey with CNN in the video above.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, converted shipping containers are being looked at as a solution to the housing crisis. SEED is an organization of teachers and students hailing from Clemson University. The program takes advantage of an existing surplus of shipping containers and works with industry partners to research and develop an affordable housing solution for the Caribbean Region. They found that the Caribbean nations inherently import more goods than they export, generating a steady surplus of shipping containers. The containers are constructed of steel able to withstand winds of up to 140-mph, and provide 304 square feet of floor space. Associate-Professor Doug Hecker, who is heading the campaign, states that placing a few strategic cuts in the containers allows for enough airflow and light to make these sanctuaries livable. With a long-term commitment, these places of refuge can be made permanent. According to FastCompany.com, the containers are also augmented with another surplus item: 55-gallon drums fitted with an interior slip to protect against leaking.

DJ Arems (Faction Sound/Vancouver) linked up with our friends at C1RCA and Shine Nightclub, where Vancouver's #1 Dancehall party Free Up Wednesdays happens every week, to come with a gang-load of the top Dancehall riddims from 2009. If you're weren't able to scour the earth (internet) for all these tracks, you're off the hook. What's more, the mix, entitled Fiya Fi Bun Dem Pt. 4, contains dubplates from everyone from Assassin to Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man. Also represented here are the two top production units in Jamaica right now: Big Ship (Stephen McGregor) and Deseca, where would Dancehall in 2009 have been without them?

In a press conference arranged by the Jamaican government, top Dancehall artists Vybz Kartel and Mavado state that they are not enemies, and actually plan to collaborate in the near future. The past reported "feud" between the two was said to be tied to the "Gully" vs. "Gaza" conflict that has engulfed Jamaica in recent years.

Canadian retailer Ransom dropped this video this past weekend profiling New York native DJ Neil Armstrong. This serves as a peek into a day in his life, one where he has found himself the backing/tour DJ for Jay-Z, one of the biggest names in music. To call Neil a "Turntablist" or a "Mixtape DJ" would not reveal any substantial part of the story. Neil came up alongside the greats of the 90's New York DJ scene. These are folks that are often overlooked when people talk DJ culture; Guys like Rob Swift, J-Smoke, DJ Excess, Fat Fingaz, JS-1, DJ Supreme along with his own crew: The 5th Platoon.

Being proprietors of our very own Barber Shop (Frank's Chop Shop), the cover of this latest mix from The Moustache Men DJs immediately caught our attention. The below mix entitled Movember was assembled in honor of last month's (surprise, surprise) Movember effort, which is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues - specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Created as a musical companion to the Movember celebration, we have a blend mix that contains some severely funky beats, underneath a slew of well known (and overlooked) raps and songs. Moving quickly, this mix showcases the connection between the pop music of today, and the black music of the 70's and 80's. The Moustache DJs consists of DJs New Money, Classi Assi and F.U.N.K., who all reside in Montreal, Canada, and have been building with us over here at Frank, and we're always keeping an eye on their progress, and this mix was a nice little reminder of that.
