History
“You can’t know where you’re going, unless you know where you’ve been.”
Are you familiar? Street culture is popular today, but expressing oneself through culture, music, poetry, thought, and motion is as old as time itself. Skip ahead to today, and we have amazing technology to remix art in all aspects of life. Mayan Tamang Inc. represents the past, present, and future of worldwide street culture.
Originally born in Boston, Mayan spent the first 7 years of his life living with his father in third world Nepal. There he learned of his ancestry and developed a cultural awareness of his father’s warrior tribe, the Tamang. At an early age, Young Mayan realized the power of art. With support from the Tamang tribe, he knew he had to set out to explore the world and cultivate the brilliant art he saw in everyday life. As a multicultural student of the world, Mayan has learned to appreciate and understand his artistic spirit.
Mayan shows his passion for music, dance, and graffiti in his Hip-Hop Documentary, “ICHI.” Upon it’s completion in 2002, it garnered the Morgan State Film Festival Award. Soon after, the video successfully sold in Boston, New York, Atlanta, San Francisco, Bangkok, Osaka and Kathmandu, making Mayan an internationally renowned filmmaker. Later in 2005 he released “DOS” the highly anticipated sequel.
In 2006, Mayan launched Mayan Tamang Productions, a clothing label which reflects contemporary street culture. His goal is to inspire others to chase down their dreams and unite by introducing unique lines of apparel and media produced by artists of all ethnicities, cultures, and lifestyles.
Today, Mayan Tamang Productions is still growing, and continues to promote the ideals of street culture and positive living. He uses clothing as a canvas for conveying unique art that spotlights beauty from around the world. As a Graphic Designer, Photographer, Floorlord B-boy, Videographer, Husband, and world traveler, Mayan remains inspired to create a line of apparel that represents the wonder of art in life.
Peace to all friends, family and loved ones. Thank you for your amazing support.
