New Orleans own spit factory Curren$y has been making big waves around the internet lately, and if you ask us, his praise is definitely deserved. He's paired up with our boy Wiz Khalifa here and there, with some sick results. Although he hasn't released a full album yet, he's been popping up left and right, and he's on the tongue of just about every hip-hop blogger. Today, Curren$y released a mixtape with Don Cannon, entitled Smokeee Robinson, which we have for you right here.

“How To Make It In America” (Pilot Episode/Video)

How To Make It In America is the upcoming HBO series, produced by Mark Wahlberg of Entourage, and written by first-time writer Ian Edelman, in a collaboration with Emmy nominee Rob Weiss. The show is centered around two Brooklyn men, trying to "achieve the American Dream", and features Kid Cudi as their "well connected friend". We're interested to see what happens with this, considering Entourage's appeal and success. The show premieres on February 14th.

Reggae fans are familiar with Sanchez, as he's been blessing mics with his golden singing voice for over 15 years. Before that, he was grinding as a popular DJ with the Rambo Soundsystem, performing as a "triple threat", where he was djing, toasting and singing over the tracks he would play.

His late 80's hit "Lady In Red" (a cover of Simply Red) won over a reggae world that has stayed checking for Sanchez' music until this day. This Tuesday February 9th VP Records brings the world Sanchez' next full length effort, entitled Now & Forever. This release is full of the singer's rootsy vibe that takes from today's American r&b and pop, while displaying the foundation reggae vibration that often goes missing in many of today's uptempo and computerized dance hall releases. Instead, you get a good-feeling, a sweet croon, and a steady skank. If you're looking for that rootical sound, and miss the days of reggae-past, this release is your ticket.

Vancouver native and New York artist Richard Hambleton was a contemporary of Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Worhol, although he may not have permeated pop culture the way the others did. Regardless, his combination of street and fine art are a perfect example of the parallel path he shared with those other artists. Seeing his progression makes you wonder what direction these other folks may have taken.

Richard's Mass Murder series depicted an artistic version of an all-too common appearance in the big city: the crime scene, chalked outline of bodies, and presence of blood. Displaying a strong sense of reality, Richard's work made quite an impression. He's since transitioned into his Beautiful Paintings series, a much different experience, yet a natural progression for him and his work. See him discussing the journey with CNN in the video above.

Frank151 and Z-Trip Tear Up Denver For SIA

The SIA (Snowsports Industries of America) Tradeshow made its way to Denver, Colorado last weekend after a 35-year reign in Las Vegas. Of course there would still be the regular business of any tradeshow: industry leaders wooing retailers and showing off next year's products, up-and-coming grassroots brands trying to get their foot in the door and media outlets of every shape and size there to cover it all. But one big question that was on a lot of people's minds was, "Would it be as fun?" Luckily, Special Blend, Atmosphere Clothing and Frank151 were there to answer that question by hosting the best party of the weekend on opening night with DJ Z-Trip at Beta Nightclub.

On Thursday, January 28th, Z-Trip and his sidekick for the weekend Goldenchyld played to a packed house of both out-of-town SIA peeps and Denver locals for hours on end, juggling beats back and forth on four turntables and sending shockwaves of bass through Beta's massive Funktion One speaker system. As one the best dance clubs in the country, Beta's combination of stellar sound, sexy atmosphere and superb service always makes for a good night. Naturally there were some patrons who ended up getting kicked out and probably wouldn't agree with that statement, but it wouldn't really be a proper snowboard party without some form of debauchery. But those who managed to stay inside had an awesome time and Z-Trip brought the bangers and fired up the crowd like no one else can.

Cop Pulls Over Septic-Tank Truck, Finds 700 Lbs Of Pot Inside

On January 27, 2010 at about 4:00 pm, a DPS officer was patrolling on northbound Interstate 19 in the area of kilometer 40 (near Tubac, Ariz. which is located about 35 miles south of Tucson, Ariz.). The officer noticed a septic tank truck, which was also northbound, was displaying an invalid license plate. The officer stopped the septic tank truck and contacted the driver, a male subject. During the contact the officer found that the commercial vehicle markings on the truck were not valid commercial markings. After completing the stop the officer asked for and was given permission to search the vehicle.

Upon opening the holding tank on the septic tank truck the officer saw bales of marijuana inside. The officer removed approximately 743 pounds of marijuana from the holding tank. The street value of the marijuana is $409,000.

Nneka - "Concrete Jungle" Album Released Today

Nneka made a huge sound on Radio one, when her Heartbeat single was remixed by dubstep generals Chase And Status, and got major spins. As curiosity began to grow for her in the states, DJ J Period made moves to connect with the singer, and compiled The Madness (Onye-Ala) mixtape, which won both the singer and the DJ hearts worldwide. Nneka hails from Nigeria, and her name was plucked from the Igbo people that live in the eastern part of Nigeria. It's meaning translates to “mother is supreme, mother is the best”. Coming to New York recently, Nneka performed at SOB's to packed house of music specialists, and this (and other shows) only increased demand for her music in the states.

Today, February 2nd, Nneka releases her first proper U.S. release Concrete Jungle. It's been heavily bumped throughout the office since we got it a couple of weeks back, and it represents something new in music we've been longing for. Nneka's sound consists of a stew of styles that you could start to pluck out influences from, but it just doesn't seem worth it. Let's just say it all flows. The lyrics, the instruments, the whole package just moves along, never staying in one place. Nneka sings and rymes, but there's something more.

Rapper Big Pooh - The Purple Tape (Free Download)

Every once and a while (ok, all the time), a mixtape comes out and we, for one reason or another, never get the chance to put it up here. This was the case with the recent release of the Rapper Big Pooh (Of Little Brother) project entitled The Purple Tape. This mixtape, entirely produced by Black Milk, consists of beats that were made from chopped up pieces of Prince music; a risky prospect indeed. We're all for a good mixtape though, so we gave it a listen and were impressed with way Black Milk (as always) twisted these samples to fit the flow of the Rapper Big Pooh, as well as the ability of Black Milk to make the product sound nothing like the source.

Killahbeez.com has steadily been cranking out blog posts about music, art, fashion, and other elements of street culture since 2007. Their Mixtape Mondays segment has been giving light to mixes every week, and this week they're bringing the fifth edition of their Boner Jams series to Mixtape Mondays. Boner Jams is a collection of the most downloaded tracks for each month from their Afternoon Jams column, where Killahbeez posts up various tracks for download. Boner Jams Vol. 5 is a postpunk/electro-house/retro new wave excursion that consists of mostly remixes of a slew of tracks you may or may not have heard. The mix and tracklisting can be found here.

The NYPD has suspended the highway patrolman whose idling vehicle was stolen yesterday morning while he sat in a Bronx diner. Officer Nelson Robles stepped into the breakfast joint at 7 am, and just two minutes later his car went screeching from the lot, with Anibal Lugo—a batty local—behind the wheel. Both men now face the consequences of their brainless acts.

Until April 26th, you have a rare chance to view a very thorough collection of the works of Tim Burton, the accomplished American filmmaker/animator, and legendary figure. These works, on display at The Museum Of Modern Art in New York, include items from as far back as the '70s, and consists of drawings, paintings, sculptures, short films, collage, writings, animations and more. In addition, the Moma website has a spectacular interactive website designed for the exhibit.
