Guy Laramee Turns Books Into Caves (Literally)

These interesting works of art that you see here come from the 2012 project A Caverna (The Cave), created by the hands of Guy Laramee, a Montreal-based book sculptor.

From caves to mountains, there's no doubt that Laramee worked hard on every detail. He carves very realistic miniature caves out of old books. The cave, which is usually a symbol of solitude, exile, and imprisonment can instead be our refuge or temple. That's the beauty that Laramee is trying to show through his work.

As Laramee says via his website, "What if, instead of hiding away from the play of shadows on the wall, we would sit down and try to see through them?"
